Bluephage is one of the 23 spin-offs of the Universitat de Barcelona
Bluephage participates in the First Meeting of spin-offs of the University of Barcelona: Cockroaches vs. Unicorns, to share its experience as a biotech spin-off developed thanks to the Fundació Bosch i Gimpera, the knowledge and technology transfer office of the University of Barcelona that connects university and business to transfer innovation to society.
The University of Barcelona is a reference institution in the national and European context regarding innovation and the transfer of research results. This first meeting, held last Thursday, October 20th, at the Barcelona Science Park (Parc Científic de Barcelona), aimed to bring together the 23 spin-offs of the University of Barcelona to get to know each other, share experiences and create synergies between them.
During their speeches, the rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Guàrdia Olmos, and the President of the Social Council, Joan Corominas Guerín, stressed that innovation and research transfer in public universities are the third mission, along with teaching and research, to participate in the progress of society actively. They also pointed out that current research systems cannot be understood without contemplating a return on results that address or respond to the solutions needed for society’s problems.
The 23 spin-offs come from different sectors and are in very different situations, as some are 15 years old and others have just started, but the usual problems they all encounter are issues related to funding, prototyping, offering solutions to real market needs and regulations, among others.
Bluephage is one of the spin-offs of the UB with almost six years of history and presence in a dozen countries, which through its business project, contributes to minimizing the risks to public health derived from fecal and viral contamination of water with a fast, efficient and cost-effective solution to detect it.
