Bluephage acknowledged as Best Communication with the Highest Potential for Application to Environmental Diagnostics in Water Quality
Bluephage received the prize for Best Communication with the Highest Potential for Application to Environmental Diagnostics in Water Quality. This prestigious award, sponsored by LABAQUA, was presented during the XIV Scientific Meeting of the Aquatic Media Microbiology Group of the Spanish Society of Microbiology (SEM) on Friday, September 13, 2024.

At this important scientific meeting, our Development Director, Julia Martín Díaz, presented Bluephage’s innovative method for somatic coliphage enumeration using the ENUMERA® Rapid Kit. This innovation allows the enumeration of coliphages in 100 ml water samples in a record time of 6.5 hours, significantly improving the speed and accuracy of microbial water analysis. This breakthrough represents a leap forward in aquatic microbiology, offering crucial support for public health by providing faster and more reliable data for pollution control in urban and wastewater environments.
The ENUMERA® rapid kit is specifically designed for somatic coliphage counts, a key indicator of fecal contamination, which is critical for assessing the safety of water sources.
The kit uses a patented technology based on a colorimetric reaction, in which a color change in the culture medium indicates the presence of coliphages through lysis of the host strain. This quantification is performed using the Most Probable Number (MPN) method, which provides a reliable estimate of the concentration of coliphages in water samples.
